Mecklenburg County Bar President's Message

Dear Fellow Bar member,

Your Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) is the heartbeat and #1 resource for the greater Charlotte metropolitan legal community. We are 5400 members strong and our mission is to serve the public and YOU, our members, through a variety of benefits and opportunities, including:

  • use of meeting, conference and event spaces at our 24,000 square foot Bar & Foundation Center;
  • connecting with colleagues through committees, sections, and social events;
  • keeping abreast through our locally focused continuing legal education programs;
  • attracting new clients through our Lawyer Referral Service; and
  • giving back to the community and the profession through volunteer and pro bono work.

If you are 36 years of age or younger, or in your first three years of practicing law, please consider joining the Young Lawyers Division (YLD). Newly admitted lawyers are granted free membership in the YLD throughout the fiscal year in which he or she is first licensed in North Carolina. The YLD provides a unique, invaluable opportunity for newly licensed lawyers to acclimate to life as a Mecklenburg County lawyer. Get involved with the YLD and start building a solid foundation of colleagues early in your legal career.

Maximize the value of your MCB membership. Join a committee or section of interest. Become a leader. Make new friends. Generate resources and referrals. Get to know the terrific MCB and Mecklenburg Bar Foundation staff. If you're already involved, invite a colleague to join you at your next MCB event.

If you have any questions or ideas on how the MCB can better serve its members, please contact MCB Membership Inclusion & Diversity Director Carmen Thomas (cthomas@meckbar.org or 704/375-8624), MCB Executive Director Nancy Roberson (nroberson@meckbar.org or 704/375-8624), or me (hculp@essexrichards.com or 704/377-4300).

Very truly yours,

Heather Culp
